Open-Source / Open-Weight Model
An AI model whose underlying parameters (weights) are published and can be run on your own infrastructure.
Unlike closed models accessed only through a provider's API, an open-weight model can be downloaded and self-hosted — trading the convenience of a managed API for full control over hosting, data residency, and cost at scale. The right choice depends on data-sensitivity and infrastructure appetite, not a general preference.
