PII (Personally Identifiable Information)
Any data that can identify a specific individual — names, emails, ID numbers, and similar.
PII is the category of data most data-protection regulations are built around. Any system handling PII — including an AI feature processing customer support tickets or resumes — inherits obligations around storage, retention, and access control that need to be scoped before the system is built, not discovered afterward.
